You’re probably wondering where I can get cherries off season? I find mine at my local grocery store in the freezer section. This is just basic knowledge that we all need some kind of muscle recovery whether we are involved in sports, a daily workout program or choose to keep active. I am not talking about adding some kind of strange drug to our bodies and hope for the best. One of the fruits that I have discovered that will repair muscle is the small but robust strawberry. Strawberries are naturally high in fiber and low in sugar compared to other fruits. A one cup serving only has 46 tiny calories and 2-3 grams of fiber. Here is the most awesome bonus, this red and adorable fruit has a superb volume of vitamin C at 58.8 mg in 3.5 oz serving. This will allow your muscles to recover, and your body will also build its immunity so you can heal cuts and wounds.
The truth is these days we have countless grocery and health food stores so we can find these super, cuties all year long in our frozen section. When strawberries are in season, we can by in higher amounts so we can freeze our own.
Are you ready to start adding this oh so popular fruit to your daily menu? Strawberries are tasty in any smoothie of your choice so start blending away!
Chapter 3: Spinach- How to add a green vegetable to your breakfast smoothie and still make it off the charts healthy and sweet.
Most us have heard from our Mom’s growing up, eat your breakfast before you go to school. Especially when we grow up to be a sassy teenager, and thought we don’t have time for that nonsense. I applaud all you out there that listened to your Mom or your own stomach because breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I don’t think we totally realize that when we sleep at night 6-8 hours, our bodies are fasting. When you add spinach to your breakfast, you add only 23 calories, 0 grams of fat, and 3 grams of protein in 3.5 oz. serving. This remarkable veggie gives extra energy and vitality to people of all ages.
This super veggie is available all year round and is in season March-June. We can generally purchase spinach that is grown organic and most come washed so just open the bag and grab!
When I am blending all sorts of blueberry smoothie fruit combinations, I love to add spinach by the handful. If you add too much spinach, you can always add some more fruit and still experience the sweetness of the fruit. My philosophy is to experiment and have fun!
Chapter 4: Oranges- Here is an old school and juicy fruit that elevates your smoothie with extra fiber.
Most of us know that all fruit has fiber in it and we need to eat them daily to keep our bodies happy and healthy. There is one fruit that seems to tip the chart when it comes to fiber and this is sunny orange. Oranges are a quick and easy way to boost your fiber intake. One large orange has 4 grams of dietary fiber which is at least 10% of your recommended daily intake. The orange will also fill your belly up faster and prevents spikes in blood sugar after you eat.
The seasons for oranges range from Autumn through Spring, which is great news to have as many oranges as possible throughout the year. If you are lucky enough to live in a warm climate, you can grab orange from your own backyard. So sweet!!!
I love adding an orange to my smoothies for extra fiber, sweetness and most of all flavor. You can never have too much of this sweet and delicious dynamo of a fruit.
Chapter 5: Bananas- How a banana will add a very powerful mineral.
I have good news for banana lovers everywhere. Most of us enjoy the taste of a creamy and sweet banana, right? Well, if you need to lower your blood pressure, the banana will help with that. You don’t have to monkey around with taking a pill to improve your health. Bananas have the mother load of potassium at 422 milligrams in one medium banana which can possibly lower blood pressure if you eat one daily. What he potassium achieves is to balance the salt in the body, so this will help your kidney’s to function properly.
The banana is available year round and we never have to worry about wasting them. If your bananas ripen too much, we can simply freeze them by slicing and adding to a freezer bag, then place in your freezer.
You can simply add a banana to your smoothie of choice anytime. I love to add bananas to several of my blueberry smoothie recipes and the flavor result is delicious. I would prefer to drink or eat my nutrients than take something that is not even natural.
Chapter 6: Kiwi-The bright and tasty fruit, with a strong purpose.
Don’ be fooled by this little fuzzy fruit because this is one of the many superfoods that should be added to your daily diet. Here is one of many reasons to not overlook the Kiwi- super brain boosting power. Kiwi has omega 3 fatty acids that will help to improve memory and fight against mental disorders such as depression and dementia. The kiwi only has 6 grams of sugar in one piece fruit and 106% of your vitamin C.
You won’t have any problems finding this super- green fruit year round. The California kiwi is available from November-May and the New Zealand kiwi is in season June-October. You can store your kiwi at room temp until it is ripe and then keep it covered in the fridge up to 2 weeks.
This fruit is so delicious added to your smoothie and will enhance the flavor of the blueberry. Make sure the skin is removed before adding to your blender.
Chapter 7: Blueberries- The fruit that is off the charts good for you and loaded with antioxidants.
The blueberry is truly an amazing wonder fruit. There are constant research studies in the following areas- cardiovascular health, insulin response, and cancer research proving that blueberries have a long list of healthy advantage’s for all us to benefit from. Blueberries are most commonly known for their antioxidants. Blueberries have a such a strong diversity of antioxidants such as Anthocyanin, vitamin C, B complex, vitamin E, vitamin A, copper, selenium, zinc, and iron which help to build up our immune systems.
The super powerful domestic blueberry is in season from April-September. No need to fret after September, because you can always find them in your local grocer, Costco or Sam’s Club freezer section.
