Have you ever felt like you don’t have time to be sick? That what I was feeling when I created this smoothie. I just finished working a 50 hour week at work and felt the dreaded cold coming on. I was on the verge of losing my sense of taste and smell and had to act quickly to make a comforting and high energy boost smoothie. I needed the extra anti-oxidants from the cherries and blueberries in this drink. The orange added the “sunny” flavor I was needing and craving.
Here is a fun fact related to cherries. I just discovered that cherry season last’s only 3 short weeks beginning the first week of July through the first week of August. I live near the great area of Traverse City where I am so fortunate to have cherries growing in my own backyard, so to speak. Did you know that the city of Traverse City is named the Cherry Capital? Today, there are about 3.8 million tart cherry trees that produce 70 to 75% of cherries in the U.S. alone. This 4th of July weekend is the celebration of the cherry harvest called Cherry Festival which is an all American tradition like cherry pie. When you make this smoothie think of warm summer days and feeling more energy to heal your body and soul!
